Operational Security Expert

The ICT Directorate has a total of about 80 employees and is divided into five departments: Operations & Infrastructure, Service Center, Scientific Data & Compute, Applications and Office of the CIO.

For the Operations and Infrastructure department, we are looking for an 'Operational Security Expert'. He or she will be responsible for coordinating ICT security within the ICT Directorate.

You will report to the head of the Operations & Infrastructure department.


Responsibilities

The 'Operational Security Expert' provides technical advice on digital security, checks the proper functioning of the ICT security processes and ensures that sufficient attention is paid to both information security and privacy within the ICT Directorate.

You will work with the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Data Protection Officer (DPO) to ensure that information security and privacy requirements are clearly understood and reflected in the plans of the ICT Directorate. You will also provide ICT input for the CISO Security Plan and participate in the audits of the information security and privacy program.

You support the technical implementation of the information security and privacy requirements within the ICT Department and perform technical analyses, select appropriate solutions, supervise the implementation and operational roll-out of the selected solutions.

Some of your responsibilities

  • Analyzing and selecting possible solutions for information security and privacy requirements.
  • Supporting and following up on the roll-out of selected solutions within the ICT Directorate.
  • Follow-up of ICT security incidents.
  • To be the technical point of contact within the ICT Department in terms of information security and privacy.
  • Providing technical input from the ICT Department for the preparation of the annual CISO Security Plan.
  • Ensuring that the ICT VUB management is kept informed of new and ongoing ICT activities related to information security and privacy.
  • You help determine the ICT security metrics and follow up on them if necessary.
  • Providing technical advice to ICT staff, in line with the VUB information security and privacy requirements.

For this position, Brussels Humanities, Sciences & Engineering Campus (Ixelles) will be your home base, in combination with working from home.


What do we expect from you?

  • You have a master's degree (preferably in ICT, computer science or a related field) or you have an equivalent profile through experience.
  • You have at least 5 years of professional experiencein the ICT sector.
  • A security certification (CISSP, CISM, CISA, or similar) is a nice plus.
  • Your technical background is sufficiently solid to be able to supervise the choice and implementation of tools and methods within the ICT organization to support the information security program.
  • You are stress resistant and keep a cool head at all times.
  • You take initiative and can work independently.
  • In addition to an excellent knowledge of Dutch, you will also be fluent in English.
